Gary Albert Wickham, 68, a native of Halcottsville, slipped away quietly from us on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. He leaves behind a loving wife, Gwendolyn and an ever growing and emerging family.
He was the son of Albert and Winifred Wickham of New Kingston. After four years of military service in the Navy he made his way across our great country from upstate New York to San Francisco where he met his wife to be. He was a 1957 graduate of Roxbury Central School and graduated number two in his Navy class.
Gary had a passion for social justice, photography and golf.
For the health of his wife and family he moved the clan from San Francisco/Pacifica to South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Raising four children he and Gwen worked tirelessly to provide for their children in their new environment. After 30 years in Tahoe, Gary and Gwen retired to Reno, Nev. to be nearer to the Veterans’ Administration Hospital. Here the VA treated his Chronic Lymphomic Leukemia (CLL) to the best of their ability. Beating kidney failure and early treatments for CLL, his strength and stability were traits the family will forever remember and attempt to sustain.
“They don’t make them like this anymore.”
