Fleischmanns memorabilia on display at Middletown Town Hall

Photos and memorabilia from the Village of Fleischmanns are featured in a new exhibit at the Middletown Town Hall.

The display, organized by Town Historian Shirley Davis and John Duda, includes items from the vast collection of the Museum of Memories in Fleischmanns. The exhibit calls attention to the historic village which will host the first in a series of guided walking tours in the region on Memorial Day Weekend.

A serving plate from Breezy Hill Hotel; an 1867 map of Griffin’s Corners (before the community was renamed Fleischmanns); an early photo of automobiles and people arriving by train at the busy Fleischmanns Ulster & Delaware Railroad station and many postcards of hotels and resorts, schools, the firehouse and other scenes are on view.

The material will be on display in the venerable Bussy’s Store display case at the town hall on Route 28 between Margaretville and Arkville through the end of May. The exhibit may be seen weekdays during regular business hours.

Guided walking tours of Fleischmanns will be offered Saturday, May 24 at 1 p.m. and Sunday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. beginning at Skene Memorial Library on Main Street. The tours are part of a celebratory weekend featuring vintage base ball and other events and activities.

Guided walking tours will also be offered on June 21 in Margaretville, July 5 in New Kingston, August 9 in Andes and during Labor Day Weekend in Roxbury. The Middletown Town Hall display case will feature exhibits on each of those communities this summer.
