Evelyn Norris

Evelyn Norris, 69, of Andes, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at O’Connor Hospital, Delhi. She was born in Union Grove (Andes) on May 8, 1940, to Warren and Virginia (DuMond) Weaver. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Gerald C. Norris, on Feb. 2, 1957, in Downsville. Evelyn grew up in the Andes area and attended Andes Central School. After living in Kingston for 18 years, she and Gerald moved back to Andes in 1979.
She was an active member of the Andes Methodist Church for many years and a devoted servant of her Lord. She served faithfully for many years in the United Methodist Women and was secretary of Circle One, a trustee, stewardship chairperson and financial secretary. Evelyn was an active member for more than 25 years in Andes Grange 1588, Delaware County Grange 20 years and served as lady assistant steward for several years in both Granges. She was also a member of New York State Grange and National Grange.
Evelyn was a past member of the Pleasant Valley Community Club, a trustee of the Shavertown Cemetery Association and its secretary-treasurer for many years, a member of the Shavertown Old Home Day Reunion and its president for 20 years. She was also a member of the Delhi Bird Club, loved all wildife, especially the eastern bluebird and the swallow tail butterfly. She loved flowers, and she and Gerald had many each year. She was also an avid reader. Evelyn loved photography and took hundreds of pictures of her family. She will be remembered for her huge collection of earrings and her great sense of humor.
Surviving are her husband, Gerald C. Norris; a son, Jerry Norris of Schenectady; a godchild, Penny Bolde Hung of Saugerties; sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Bill Bolde of Saugerties; sister-in-law, Loretta Weaver of Hamden; a brother, Alan Weaver of Andes; five grandchildren, Dawn Norris, Amber Shaver and David, Jerry and Jenny Eckert of Pine Bush. Also surviving are aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Larry Titch of Andes.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Jeremiah Conger Norris on January 23, 2000; a brother, Warren Weaver Jr., on February 9, 2005 and a daughter, Darla Jeanne Norris Eckert on June 2, 2009.
A memorial service will be held for Evelyn at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Andes Methodist Church, Andes, with the Rev. Karen Ogborn officiating.
A service of committal will take place at a later date in the Shavertown Cemetery.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no calling hours.
