Eric Reed wins tennis title in Delaware League championship

Margaretville Central School tennis player Eric Reed defeated Hunter-Tannersville’s David Sandler, 6-1, 6-4, to claim the Delaware League boys’ singles title at the league championship match played in Margaretville last Tuesday.
Reed, a junior, defeated Davenport’s Brad Teator to advance to the final match, while Sandler defeated Reed’s teammate Sage Beemer 6-2, 6-2 to advance.
Roxbury’s Brittney Bell advanced to the semifinal round of the girls’ championship but fell to Hunter-Tannersville’s Paige Byrne, 6-3, 6-1.
In the boys’ doubles competition, Roxbury’s Kevin Lutz and Christian Schor earned second place, falling to Hunter-Tannersville’s Tucker Foti and Nick Clark 6-2, 6-1 in the championship match. Margaretville’s duo of Alex Ramos and Tyler Hubbell advanced to the semifinal round, where they fell to Foti and Clark, while Margaretville doubles team Marcus Moore and Tyler Smith fell in the semifinal round to Lutz and Schor.
In girls’ doubles, Roxbury’s Tiffany Faulkner and Caitlin Brew fell to Hunter-Tannersville’s Mary Tracy and Taylor Dart 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
The 2010 Section IV tennis championship will be played Thursday and Friday at SUNY Delhi. The seedings will be released on Wednesday.
Margaretville and Hunter-Tannersville tied for the regular season league championship.
