E.O. England should run for office
To The Editor:
I am writing to respond to a letter to the editor by E.O. England. It was printed in your July 28 edition.
E.O. is entitled to his opinions but E.O. is not entitled to make up facts.
I will address a few points that can be easily cleared up in a reasonable manner. If E.O. could take some time to read The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx, E.O. would realize that Obama is not a Marxist. In a Marxist society Wall Street would be abolished. A Marxist would not let BP have retained any control over the cleanup of the oil spill. Private ownership is abolished in a communist society.
Obama supports an education program that allows students to attend college and after graduation, if they take a job with an NGO or charity, they do not have to pay back 100 percent of their college loans. This is a social economic program best suited for our children who might never have afforded a college education. In America we have scholarships, grants and low cost loans; if E.O. feels these are socialist programs, so be it. We do have a few other socialist programs in the U.S. They are social security, veterans’ hospitals and Medicare and Medicaid. Does England propose that vets benefits be taken away because their socialist nature threaten his liberty? Is social security a threat to freedom?
The government does spy on us all. Sad to say Obama is continuing many secret programs started by George Bush and Cheney. I abhor them, as does E.O. I hope E.O. realizes that Cheney had secret meetings with energy companies at the start of his administration, and refused to allow the public to learn what was agreed upon by the private sector and the Bush administration.
If E.O. would listen to the republican senators he would learn that they have one unified policy toward Obama — No. No to everything, even lengthening unemployment insurance and funding job programs. I hope E.O. is employed.
I am glad E.O. quotes the polls that support E.O’s opinion, but Arizona’s laws are against the Constitution of America. Should a majority in one state be able to stop Constitutional laws so easily? For 200+ years America has been ruled by laws. I have a solution for E.O. about illegal immigration — pass stronger laws that make it illegal for a business to hire illegal workers. This would stop illegal immigration.
I do not understand E.O.’s last comment. Is E.O. riling up people toward violence? E.O. would serve America better if E.O. ran for office and tried to serve his country.
