Environmental Compliance Workshop for municipalities

Margaretville — A workshop will be held Friday, Oct.12 in Margaretville for watershed town and village officials and employees addressing the environmental compliance issues confronting municipalities, ranging from waste management and disposal, to petroleum bulk storage, to stormwater management.

The workshop, sponsored by the Catskill Watershed Corporation, will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Middletown Town Hall, 42339 State Highway 28, between Margaretville and Arkville. Register by October 9 at www.cwconline.org or by calling 586-1400, ext. 11.

Kevin Young and Elizabeth Morss, attorneys with the Albany law firm Young/Sommer, will present this free seminar. Light refreshments will be provided.

The workshop will provide guidance on the environmental compliance issues most likely to confront municipalities in their day-to-day operations. These include management, storage, disposal and recycling of solvents, used oil, light bulbs, electronic equipment and other waste streams commonly generated by municipal operations.

Attendees also will learn about regulations concerning asbestos and lead paint removal, placement of fill and soil materials from excavation sites, and cleanup and reporting of oil and chemical spills, and how to deal with historic spills and insurance issues.

Finally, attendees will receive an overview of stormwater regulations and petroleum bulk storage requirements, as well as other environmental programs potentially relevant to day-to-day municipal activities.
