Ellsworth Stahl

Ellsworth (Bill) Stahl, 91, a resident of Hubbell Hill, Margaretville, died at his home on Monday, February 25, 2013.

Bill was born on Hubbell Hill, the son of Leslie and Ellen (Stephens) Stahl.  He was married to Doris (Hinkley) Stahl for 67 years. They were married on December 31, 1945.

He graduated from Margaretville High School in 1940 and attended Delhi Agricultural College. Bill operated the family dairy farm on Hubbell Hill for 44 years. He won the award for the highest herd average in Delaware County and Superior Production in 1978. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Dairymen’s League. After selling his cattle herd in 1984, he and his wife Doris continued to cut and sell hay until 2008.

Bill also produced and sold maple syrup until 2009. Bill and Doris traveled to Branson, MO, took a dairy tour to the Northwest, and visited Disney World. Bill enjoyed cutting wood, gardening, square dancing, pinochle, reading and doing jigsaw puzzles.        

Surviving are his wife, Doris Hinkley Stahl; a son Jerry Stahl and Barbara Meyers of Shokan; daughter, Jeanne Stahl Cushman and her husband, Bernard Cushman of Louisa, VA; grandson Jeremy Cushman and his wife Anne of Bluemont, VA; granddaughter Jennifer Cushman and Mark Negrin of Charlottesville, VA and great grandson Benjamin Bernard Philip Negrin of Charlottesville, VA. Also surviving are nieces, Carol Stahl Coburn of Longmont, CO, and Jan Veit Bellair of Arlington, TX.

Bill was predeceased by two sisters, Winona Stahl Kutz of Wappinger Falls and Betty Veit of Margaretville, and a brother, Robert Stahl of Longmont, CO.
Calling hours will held from 2 until 4 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

A funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville with the Rev. Donald Klob, officiating.
Following the funeral service, a reception will follow at the family farm, 625 Bill Stahl Road, Margaretville.

A committal service will be held in the spring.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
