Edward “Ed” O’Connor, a resident of Andes, died Monday, April 21, 2014 at his residence with his family with him.
Ed was born August 21,1934 in Brooklyn to John and Dorothy (Kimmel) O’Connor. He was one of 12 children and grew up in Brooklyn and was a true “Brooklyn Boy.” Before retiring to his beloved Catskills, Ed worked for over 40 years in catalog fashion photography. As a studio manager and account representative, he saw the heyday of the big catalogs; Sears, J.C. Penney, Montgomery Wards, Lane Bryant, and Aldens.
After retiring to his home in the Catskills, Ed loved being the “home carpenter”, playing golf, volunteering time to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, and was a familiar face at Margaretville Liquor where he worked part time. He definitely was a people person.
Ed is survived by his wife, Laura; three children, Keith O’Connor, Colleen Walsh and her husband Brian Walsh, and Wayne O’Connor and his wife Pamela Garramone O’Connor. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Colleen Lazear and her husband Michael Lazear, Kathleen Walsh and her husband Patrick Byrne, Michael O’Connor and Vincent O’Connor. A sister, Cathleen O’Connor Banahan also survives.
Calling hours will be held at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. followed by closing prayers by Bishop Francisco Betancourt.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in Ed’s memory may do so to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, Route 10, Delhi, N.Y.13753 or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.
