Douglas F. Shultis, 74, of Arkville, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Margaretville Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1935, in Arkville, the son of Frank and Dorothy (Rowe) Shultis.
Doug graduated in 1953 from Roxbury Central School and was a lifelong area resident.
He married Marietta Johnson on September 7, 1958 in Margaretville.
Doug owned the Doug Shultis & Son Paving business and later worked as a heavy equipment operator for several construction companies.
He was a man that enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, traveling and snowmobiling.
Doug was a loving husband, father and grandfather and known as “Poppy” to his family.
Surviving are his wife, Marietta Shultis, Arkville; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Beth Shultis, Richmond, Mich.; daughter, Sherie Stoddard, Stone Ridge; grandchildren, Lucas, Nichole, Andrea Stoddard and Amanda Shultis; sister, Cathy Wilbur; brother, Gene Shultis and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with Robert Lawsine, officiating.
Committal services will be held in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Allaben, at a later date.
Donations in memory of Douglas F. Shultis may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and the At Home Care Services.
A special thank you from the family is extended to the nursing staff at Margaretville Memorial Hospital for the loving and dedicated care given to Doug.
