Dorris E. Gavette of Orchard Street, Margaretville died peacefully at Margaretville Hospital on Friday, July 25, 2014 with her family by her side.
She was born February 6, 1925 in Margaretville to Howard and Dorothea “Dot” Gavette.
Dorris was a long-time employee of Margaretville Central School, serving as clerk and treasurer. She retired in 1985 after about 40 years. Dorris also worked for two years as the bookkeeper at the Delaware-Ulster Railride.
Dorris was a lover of sports, especially baseball, bowling, cross-country, and downhill skiing, and was a diehard Mets’ fan. She was a member of the Margaretville Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary.
Dorris was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Richard and Glenn and a nephew, Charles.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Edna Gavette; nephews, Alan (wife Sharon), and Scott (wife Alanna); grandnephews, Keith, Lawson, and Donovan; grandnieces, Kayla, Kristi, Lindsay, and Christina; great-grandnephews, Michael, Connor, and Lukas and great-grandnieces, Anastasia, Savannah, and Xandria.
Donations in Dorris’s name can be made to the Margaretville Fire Department or Margaretville Hospital Ambulance Squad.
Calling hours will be held on Monday July 28, 2014 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday July 29, 2014 at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville with the Rev. Lawrence Dunlap officiating.
A burial service will be held at a later date in Margaretville Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
