Dorothy Gasperini, 87, of Herdman Road, Shandaken, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 with her family at her side.
She was born April 29, 1921 in Shandaken at the family homestead, the daughter of the late Amasa and Rose B. Hughes Herdman.
Dorothy was a native and lifelong area resident. She worked as a bookkeeper in the payroll department of the Kingston Hospital for several years. Many years ago she had been employed at the Chichester Furniture Factory as a furniture finisher.
She was brought up in, and a lifetime member of the Shandaken United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women’s organization. She had been active with the “Pennies from Heaven” program at the church. She had been a member and past secretary of the Shandaken Senior Citizens. Dorothy was also a skilled card player, enjoyed entertaining guests and vacationing to Lake George.
Surviving are her husband whom she married in 1975, Robert Gasperini, two daughters, Diana Mae Munch and Katherine Williams both of Shandaken; a sister, Julia Brower of Roxbury and two grandsons, Adrian and Brian Williams. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Walter Munch and her son, Walter, as well as her brothers, Kenneth, Gerald, Paul, Amasa Jr., Herbert and Charles Herdman and sister, Olive Lahl.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gasperini was held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main Street, Phoenicia with the Rev. Ralph Darmstadt officiating.
Burial will be in the Shandaken Rural Cemetery.
