Dorothy Eardley, 86, of Oneonta, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at the Chestnut Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born on March 26, 1925 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Jacob and Martha (Huebner) Schmid. On January 25, 1948 she was married to William H. Eardley in Connecticut. He predeceased her on February 18, 1997.
Dorothy grew up and spent most of her life in the New York City area. In 1972, she moved with her late husband to Fleischmanns, where they opened and operated the Linden Hill Cottages in the Village of Fleischmanns for 17 years. In 1989, the couple moved to Davenport.
She was very devoted to her family and loved to cook for them. Dorothy really looked forward to spending time with her family and their poker games. She also enjoyed doing anything that would challenge her mind, especially puzzles.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Bill T. Eardley, and his wife Angela, of Oneonta, Rita Eardley, and her companion Ray Quinn, of North Carolina, Jeanne Eardley, and her companion Norman Patterson, of South Carolina, and Betty Lynch of Oneonta; 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her best friend and roommate, Jane.
She was predeceased by her parents; her grandson, Jermaine Eardley, and her faithful companion, Stubby.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, and from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at the First Untied Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut Street, Oneonta, with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 in the Clovesville Cemetery, Fleischmanns.
