Donald Bramley

Donald R. Bramley, 89, a long-time resident of Andes, died Wednesday Sept. 19, 2012 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

Don was born May 3, 1923 in the Town of Andes, the son of Allie and Alfreta (Ruff) Bramley. He married Frances Stewart on July 2, 1944 at Livingston Manor. She died in 1993 after 49 years of marriage.

Don graduated from Andes Central School after which he and Frances operated a dairy farm in Shavertown, an area now under the waters of the Pepacton Reservoir. In addition to farming, Don hauled milk from local farms to the Andes Creamery. Upon leaving the farm, Don continued his trucking business in Andes, still driving truck well into his 80s.

Don joined the Andes Fire Department in 1956 and remained an active member for 55 years. He was honored as Fireman of the Year twice and recognized in 1997 for 25 years of service as an officer, including 11 years as president.

He will also be fondly remembered for his annual appearances in the Andes Community Day parade driving his treasured 1923 Model-T.

Don is survived by his son, Donald A. Bramley and his wife, Cindy; his daughter, Debra Carkner, and her husband, Paul; grandsons, Jeremy, Nathan and his wife Vanessa, and Brian and Justin Carkner; granddaughters, Danielle Stoecker, Erica Hubbell and Sarah Scully and her husband, Charles, and great-granddaughter, MacKenzie. Also surviving is a sister, Virginia Jakszewskil.

Don was predeceased by his siblings, Clifford Bramley, Betty Gallup and Barbara Gladstone.
Calling hours were held at the Hynes Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A funeral services was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville with Shirley Davis CLP, officiating.

A committal service was held at the Andes Cemetery prior to burial.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Andes Fire Department or the Catskill Area Hospice in memory of Donald R. Bramley.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
