Denver-Vega home claimed by fire
By Brian Sweeney
An unoccupied seasonal home on Denver-Vega Road in the Town of Roxbury was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning. The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene, according to Roxbury Fire Chief Jim Bouton.
A neighbor who lives about a mile away called in the alarm at 6:19 a.m. after spotting an orange glow in the sky. The fire at the log home had been burning for a long time and the home was a total loss, Chief Bouton said.
Pauline Sealey-Kitazato was identified as the owner of the two-story home. There was no one at the seasonal residence when the fire broke out.
Chief Bouton said the home had electricity and heat. The cause of the blaze is being investigated by the Delaware County Emergency Services Department. Investigator Rich Bell said this week that no cause has been determined, but the fire is not listed as suspicious.
Firefighters from Roxbury, Margaretville, Halcottsville and Arkville provided mutual aid at the scene. More than 30 firefighters fought the blaze.
