Delhi's FireFest headed to Maple Shade
Delhi — The first-annual FireFest will be held at Delhi’s Maple Shade Farm, July 21-22, and will be hosted jointly by the Delhi and Bloomville fire departments.
The weekend-long festival will offer an array of attractions and amenities, including bounce-houses, carnival games, tractor rides, an authentic vintage baseball game, “firematic” events and competitions between the fire departments, and a fireworks display on Saturday at dusk. A variety of food and drink will be available all weekend long, including a chicken barbecue and pork dinner, with salt potatoes and all the fixins, sausage and peppers, burgers, hotdogs, and a beer tent sponsored by Quarter Moon Café, Delhi, and Northern Eagle Beverages, Oneonta.
FireFest will feature musical performances from some of the region’s most popular, and acclaimed, entertainers. Saturday’s performing artists include John Scarpulla and Brian Shafer, Tim Ruffo, Mike Herman and friends, Harmony Street (featuring Frank Lumia), and the band Esquela before the fireworks. Sunday’s musical entertainment will kick-off with a very special children’s show, performed by Story Laurie and Ira McIntosh, at noon. The day’s bill is slated to include Chris Merkley (HBO, Cinemax), JimmyJohn McCabe (Yolk) and his five-piece Frank Sinatra tribute act, The Honest Mistakes, and Jonny Monster Band, featuring Delhi’s Jon Klenck.
In addition, the FireFest weekend will include after-party concerts at Delhi’s Shire Pub. On Saturday, Dirty Rotten Liars (Scranton, PA), and Liquid Me, will deliver an evening’s worth of high-energy hard rock, starting at 9:30 p.m. (after the fireworks at Maple Shade Farm). Starting at 8 p.m. On Sunday, Shire Pub will feature performances by Old Boy Records recording artists Chris Merkley, and JimmyJohn McCabe. There will be no cover charge for the FireFest concerts at Shire Pub: patrons are asked to help “stuff the boot” and make a donation to the Delhi/Bloomville fire departments.
FireFest gates open at 10 a.m. each day, and admission is $5 per person, children under five admitted free. The FireFest campaign is an attempt to adequately equip the Delhi and Bloomville volunteer fire departments with essential safety and rescue gear. Both volunteer fire departments are 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations, and donations are tax deductible. If you would like to donate, but can’t attend the FireFest events at Maple Shade Farm, or at the Shire Pub, please send all donations to: FireFest, PO box 405 Delhi, NY, 13753.
