Delaware County Committee will honor Cordes as Democrat of the Year

The Delaware County Democratic Committee has selected C. Peter Cordes of Sidney Center as its 2010 “Democrat of the Year.” The award will be presented to him at the committee’s annual dinner on Saturday, June 19 in the dining hall at Hanah Mountain Resort, Margaretville.
Cordes, known to most as “Pete,” is a veteran of the political wars, having first run for public office in 1985. He is now serving his fourth four-year term as Sidney town councilman.
Of his first attempt, he noted, “I was in a three-way race for supervisor. Walter Johnson won.” He served his first two council terms from 1993-2001, was returned to office in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007.
A native of the Long Island community of Franklin Square, he noted, “I grew up as a farmer’s son.” He is a graduate of Afton Central School.
