Dart Tourney to rise funds in Andes
The Kevin Roney Memorial Stars & Stripes Dart Tournament Fund-Raiser will be held on Saturday, May 5 starting at 1 p.m. in Andes.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the dart tournament fund-raiser. In addition to the competition, there will a be 50/50 prize drawing, donation can, Chinese Auction, door prizes and plenty of fun. A chicken barbecue will begin at 2 p.m. Halves will be $6 and full dinners (featuring fabulous side dishes by Laurie Day) are $9.
In a tradition begun last year, the tournament is dedicated to the memory of Kevin Roney, a longtime Andes resident who passed away in 2011. Kevin had initiated the Flags on Main Street program in the hamlet. He coordinated the flag hanging in the spring and taking them down in the fall. Kevin also kept an eye on the flags to ensure that they flew proudly.
Money raised at the tournament will be used to replace flags in the hamlet and to provide hanging baskets for the decorative lampposts along Main Street and Delaware Avenue. Some of the funds will also be utilized to increase signage along the community’s four entryways.
Bill Day, one of the event’s organizers, noted that last year’s event raised $2,260 that was donated to the Andes Advertising Group for the purchase of flags and flowers.
The event will be held at the Andes Horseshoe Barn, located on Redden Lane, just off Main Street, Andes (near the traffic light).
