Cultural exchange & mix displayed at Lerner exhibit

Roxbury — The newly opened Martin Lerner Gallery will present two artists of different backgrounds in an exciting exhibit that will open on Saturday, July 31 at 2 p.m.

Oil Painter Dan Pelonis was born in Toronto, Canada. After earning a degree from the Ontario College of Art and Design, and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art, he went to travel and lived in the Czech Republic, Germany and in Italy in search of new inspirations. In 2008 he taught at The Hellenic International School of Art on the island of Paros in Greece. Now, back in New York, he is the studio assistant to the renowned American Painter Jeff Koons. Dan’s home and studio are located in Brooklyn.

“All things that belong to the realm of sight are a potentially good source for a painting. Whether working from life, found images or imagination, it is invigorating to create narrative through the simplicity and aesthetic beauty of oil paint.” Dan stated his view of art.

Water Colorist Hou Fai-Yueh Shiina was born in Beijing, China and grew up in Taiwan. After graduating from the Taiwan National Art College in Taipei, she attended the Ecole National des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1972. She then joined “Atlier 17” of W. Hayter studying Graphic Arts in Paris. Since then Hou Fai-Yueh Shiina has had solo and group exhibitions in Taiwan, Japan, New York and in Los Angeles.

Hou Fai-Yueh Shiina talks about the inspiration she draws for her art, “Each moment of happiness, sadness and emptiness in our lives become our memories. Those memories begin to live within. They are vivid. They can be hard to reach. I translate these emotions through color and form. They reveal my Soul.”

“It is truly satisfying to see that the arts are being displayed in Roxbury by two artists of different cultural backgrounds, yet they each and together show their common human experience through their art.” Martin Lerner said,.

The exhibit will open on Saturday, July 31, at 2 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception and an opportunity to meet the artists. It will run for a month and close on Friday, Sept. 3. The Martin Lerner Gallery is located at 53470 state Highway 30, Roxbury. For more information, call Martin Lerner at 607 326-6090 or e-mail MarLerner
