Conservatory to honor O'Connor Foundation
By Jay Braman Jr.
The Hobart-based A. Lindsey and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, which has a long history of supporting the region, will be honored this Saturday at the 24th Annual Snowball at Belleayre Ski Center.
The foundation’s contribution to the region is one that is long and broad. In the recent past the Catskill Forest Association has received funds, as has the MARK Project, Delhi College of Technology, Delaware Academy and Central School, the Girl Scouts, local libraries, museums, historical associations and a host of other entities.
The foundation funds projects that are either located in Delaware County or directly benefit the residents of Delaware County. Of particular interest are programs that directly benefit the children and youth of the county. The foundation also awards scholarships to Delaware County students, and if there’s money left over, to students in Otsego, Broome, Sullivan, Schoharie, Chenango, Greene, and Ulster counties.
The Belleayre Conservatory presents its Snowball each year to benefit the Belleayre Music Festival. Held each January at the ski center’s main lodge atop Highmount in the Town of Shandaken, the Snowball is a black-tie fund-raiser for the Belleayre Conservatory, a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 to present, promote and support cultural programs that will encourage the use of Belleayre Mountain as a vital resource for the Catskill region.
“Join us this year as we honor the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation for their work bringing culture to the Catskill Mountains,” said Belleayre Spokesman Blake Killin on Monday.
Recent honorees have been Congressman Maurice Hinchey, State Senator John Bonacic and Belleayre’s Superintendent Tony Lanza.
Tickets are $160 per person which includes dining, an open bar and dancing to the music of Special Delivery. Call 254-5787 for information and tickets.
