Colleen Ann Carr, 40, of Gilboa died Thursday April 19, 2012 at the Westchester Medical Center as a result of a brain aneurysm.
She was born December 2, 1971 in Queens, a daughter of Della Sweeney Gartelman of Margaretville and the late Fred Gartelman. She was a lifetime resident of the Catskill Mountains and a soul mate of her husband Anthony, whom she married in 2004.
She and her family lost everything and were displaced from their home in Prattsville when that community was destroyed by Hurricane Irene in August 2011. Colleen was an individual with a big heart and a huge capacity for caring about others. Her children and husband were the center of her universe. She loved animals and both vegetable and flower gardening. Big sunny and bright sunflowers were her favorites! She enjoyed bicycling, motorcycling, and had a special affinity for Ford Mustangs.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Anthony, and two children, Richell and Conner, both at home. A brother, Fred Gartelman of Margaretville, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Family and friends gathered to honor and remember her on Monday evening from 7 to 9 p. m.
A service to celebrate the life of Colleen was held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main Street, Phoenicia. The Rev. Ralph Darmstadt was celebrant.
