Claire Balcom

Claire Jeanne Kenna Balcom, 81, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010. She was born July 31, 1928 to James and Clara Kenna of Brooklyn. Claire was a graduate of St. Teresa of Avila Elementary, Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School and the Long Island College Hospital of Nursing.
She married Francis G. Balcom after World War II.
Claire had an extensive career as a registered nurse and administrator; serving as Associate Director of Nursing at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn; Director of Nursing at Margaretville Memorial Hospital in Margaretville and Director of Nursing at The Delaware County Home and Infirmary in Delhi. She returned to nursing with the VA Hospital, serving in Arizona, Florida and ultimately, Albany.
She was the wife of the late Francis Balcom.
Surviving are three daughters and one son, Jeanne Denson (David) of Sparta, N.J., Rosemary Balcom (Ken) of Delhi, Mary Frances Balcom of Leavenworth, Wash. and Michael K. Balcom (Roberta) of Pittsfield, Mass. She was also the grandmother of Elizabeth, Matthew, Andrew, Megan, Erin, Mary Catherine, Rielly and Ahna.
A traditional Requiem Mass was offered on Monday, Feb. 22 by Father Joseph Collins at St. Michael’s Chapel, Route 9W, Glenmont.
In lieu of donations, the family requests to have Masses offered for her soul.
