Circus Skills Camp for Kids is offered at RAG Feb. 17-19
School is closed and it’s winter. What is a parent to do with the eight- to 12-year-old kids? The Roxbury Arts Group steps into the gap with a new three-day workshop, “Stars in Motion – The Fairy Tale Circus” to be held at the Hilt Kelly Hall on Vega Mt. Road on Feb. 17, 18 and 19 from 12:30- 3:45 p.m. and is led by Hana Roth Seavey, a graduate of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College.
In this fun-paced workshop, kids will learn to ride unicycles and handle stilts in the process of creating a magical tale, a theater of movement enhanced by circus arts and skills. By using their own bodies to create enchanted castles, forests, dungeons and special characters, each child will star in a fairy tale of their own making.
The Looking Glass Theatre’s sold-out production of Hana’s “Jack! The Unbeatable Boy,” in New York, inspired Hana to use her circus skills and teaching experience in fairy-tale settings. She is a graduate of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, a Fulbright Scholar in Mime, and a NYC Board of Education teacher. Teaching clown arts, juggling, magic, mime, stilt-walking and unicycling and involving the children in the art of spinning, writing and performing their own fairy tales from their imaginations and experience is a thrill that Hana says can’t be more exciting.
