'Chocolat' at Roxbury fest
Roxbury — On Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m., the Roxbury Arts Group invites the public to attend a screening of “Chocolat,” the third film in our “Food Glorious Food” film series.
Treats will be offered by master chocolatier Bryan Graham of Fruition Chocolate who will be joined by panelists Ulla Kjarval and Linda Norris in a discussion moderated by actress, director and farmer, Dorothy Lyman following the film.
Tickets for the film are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
The film tells the story of Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) and her young daughter, both drifters, who are met with skepticism and resistance when they move to a conservative town in rural France and open a chocolate shop across the street from a church during Lent.
As Vianne’s chocolate confections begin to work their magic and inspire those around her, the townspeople are soon won over, except for the mayor, who is determined to shut her down. The film also stars Johnny Depp, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina and Lena Olin.
‘Big Night’ planned
The fourth and final film in the series, “Big Night” (8 p.m. Saturday, March 31), will be preceded by a family style fundraising dinner held at Cassie’s Café in Roxbury at 6 p.m. Inspired by the way family and friends come together in “Big Night” around great food, the Roxbury Arts Group staff and board will be in the kitchen preparing their favorite family recipes for the meal. All food will be served family style, allowing dinner guests to try a-little-bit-of-this and a-little-bit-of-that while talking with old and new friends. Those who attend will also receive a cookbook highlighting some of the recipes served that evening. The dinner is $25, and a ticket to the film is included. Reservations are required.
“Big Night” tells the story of a struggling Italian restaurant run by two brothers, Primo and Secondo, who gamble on one special night to try to save the business. This award winning film stars Stanley Tucci, Tony Shalhoub, Minnie Driver and Isabella Rossellini. Tickets for the film are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
