Cha Cha Hut BBQ moving to Arkville
By Brian Sweeney
The Cha-Cha Hut BBQ, an eatery specializing in a wide assortment of barbecued offerings, is moving to Arkville.
Owners Frank and Cherie Davis will start serving barbecue at Casey Joe’s Coffeehouse at 43311 state Route 28 in Arkville (intersection with county Route 38) this Thursday, Oct. 20 from 6-8 p.m.
The Cha Cha Hut proprietors plan to eventually move their entire operation to the Casey Joe’s space on a full-time basis. They hope the relocation will be complete by the end of the year, once a new kitchen and cookhouse are built at the Arkville site. For the time being, the eatery will only offer Thursday hours at the new location.
The Cha Cha Hut originally opened in Roxbury in January 2010, but was destroyed by fire on May 25 of that year. With their building gone, the Davises scouted for a new location for their restaurant and eventually settled on leasing a section in the back of Hogan’s General Store in Andes. They opened there last October.
Cha Cha Hut 2, as Frank and Cherie liked to call the Andes setup, attracted a loyal clientele. Despite the restaurant’s success, the owners decided to pursue an opportunity to move into a larger space at the intersection of two very busy roadways. After careful consideration, the Davises deemed the Arkville site perfect.
Casey Joe’s Coffeehouse has operated in building for about five years and the back section of the building (which for many years housed Crosby’s Farm Supply) has been home to Roberts’ Auction for more than three years. The auction business will continue in the back.
Building owner Joe Moskowitz has several other properties in Arkville and said he is contemplating moving the coffee shop across the street when the Cha Cha Hut takes over his current space.
In the meantime, work is continuing to ready the space for this week’s inaugural Thursday evening barbecue. The Cha Cha Hut will remain open in Andes from Friday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. until the full-time move to Arkville draws near.
“We would love to be in Arkville by the end of the year,” Cherie told the News this week.
Along with their array of barbecued offerings featuring pork, beef and chicken, plus popular sides such as smoked mac and cheese, the couple plan to add a beer and wine menu at Cha Cha Hut 3, as they have dubbed their Arkville venture.
“We are so thankful for having this new space,” Cherie commented. “It feels really right.”
She said that pre-orders are welcome for the new Thursday setup in Arkville. To phone orders on Wednesdays call 607 326-6222 and from Thursday-Sunday call 845 676-6222.
