Burdick to be honored by Delaware County Democrats
Delhi — When the Delaware County Democratic Comm-ittee holds its annual dinner on Saturday, June 20 at the SUNY Delhi Hospitality Center, it will present its “Peg Pandick Woman of the Year” award to Pandick’s current successor as the county election commissioner.
Janice Burdick, who served nearly 20 years as the Democratic deputy commissioner, was promoted to commissioner in January of 2008. She had become the deputy in 1988, when Evelyn Fitch succeeded Pandick, who had died in office.
As the deputy commissioner, she became a full-time worker in the office, and applied herself diligently to the position. “If a town committee person, in either party, had a question, Janice has always had the answer, and a gentle way of steering one in the right direction,” stated one member of the nominating committee for the award.
A native of the Town of Bovina and a resident of Bloomville in the Town of Kortright since 1966, Burdick has also been a longtime member of the Kortright Democratic Committee, and has served as its chair.
Several state and federal office holders have been invited to attend the dinner. The keynote speaker will be announced closer to the date of the event.
Tickets for the dinner are available from the chairs of each town committee, or by contacting county chair Cynthia Lockrow-Schimmerling at 607 287-2198.
