Bruce Charles Voorhees, 90, of Roxbury died Saturday March 17, 2012 at Albany Medical Center.
Bruce was born on February 17, 1920 at Ashland, the son of Maurice and Inez (Roe) Voorhees.
He married Velma Irene Lane on May 17, 1942.
He worked for the Town of Roxbury Highway Department for 39 years, retiring at the age of 80. Bruce also had been a substitute bus driver for Roxbury Central School and for many years had driven a bread truck for United Bakery. He also had been a farmer. He enjoyed and was an avid
hunter, fisherman, and loved camping. His greatest joy was his family.
He was a member of the NRA and CSEA. He was a longtime member of the Roxbury Methodist Church.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Velma Irene Voorhees; a daughter, Bonnie Marie Grocholl of Roxbury; a sister Beverly Warner of Stamford, and grandchildren Daniel, Michael, Dawn, Deidre, Philip and Peter.
Also surviving are great-grand children, Gregory, Benjamin, Nicolas Dorrance, Steven Dorrance, Kenneth, and Rebecca Jones and Taylor and Alexander Thorington. Nieces and nephews alas survive.
He was predeceased by his parents and by brothers and sisters, Claude, Seeley, Maurice Jr. and, Norma and Pauline.
Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church, Roxbury at 11 a.m. on Thursday March 22, 2012. The Revs. Dottie Morris and Richard Dykstra will officiate.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday March 21, 2012 at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Donations in memory of Bruce C. Voorhees may be made to the General Fund of the United Methodist Church, Roxbury.
