Looking for their second tournament championship of the young season, the Margaretville boys’ basketball team blew by Gilbertsville- Mount Upton, 49-15, in the opening round of the Downsville Tournament on Friday.

The Blue Devils, who won the MCS Booster Club Tournament earlier in the month, will play Roscoe for the championship at a date and time that has not yet been determined. Saturday’s snowstorm knocked out consolation and championship action scheduled for Saturday.
The Blue Devils inside game overpowered G-MU as center Mitch Hull and forward Ryan Sanford dominated inside the lane. Hull netted a game-high 19 points with Sanford adding 15. The inside tandem went a combined eight-of-10 from the foul line. Sanford pulled down 12 rebounds for the Blue Devils.

Margaretville raced to a 16-2 first quarter lead, stretching their advantage to 29-6 by halftime. The victory is Margaretville’s sixth in a row. The Blue Devils only miscue in the 2012 portion of their season came in their season opener in South Kortright.
