Bertha Coager, age 88, long time resident of Grand Gorge, New York, died Tuesday May 6, 2014 at the Mountainside Residential Care Center.
Bertha was born January 15, 1926 at Grand Gorge, the daughter of Charles and Hattie (Powell) Mackey.
She married William “Pete” Coager on June 26, 1949 at the United Methodist Church, Grand Gorge, N.Y. Pete died February 16, 2000.
Bertha worked at the Stamford Hospital for many years in the cleaning dept. and also at the Tait’s Motel in Grand Gorge where she did several jobs.
She was known for her baking skills which included her special rolls she baked for friends and for many church functions.
She has been very active in the Grand Gorge United Methodist Church and a past President of the United Methodists Women of the Church.
Bertha and her family moved to Grand Gorge from Prattsville, N.Y. on November 1, 1951.
She is survived by a son, Edward T. Coager, and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pete and a daughter, Nancy, who died November 17, 2002.
Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church, Grand Gorge, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, Rev. Dottie Morris, officiating.
Committal services will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Grand Gorge.
Calling hours will be held at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, on Friday May 9, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Donations in Memory of Bertha Coager may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Grand Gorge United Methodist Church or to the memorial fund at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville, New York .
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, N.Y.
