Auxiliary Dance-a-Thon a hit
By Jill Ribich
Over 100 people danced the night away on Saturday at the third annual Margaretville Hospital Dance-a-Thon, hosted by the Hospital Auxiliary at Belleayre Mountain’s Upper Lodge in Highmount. The popular Blues Maneuver band kept the beat going as Rose and Gordy Stahl taught country line dance, and Kyla Marion and Karen Myers demonstrated some swing dance moves. “The Dance-a-Thon has developed a great following,” commented Fred Margulies, hospital board member and emcee for the evening. “We tried to balance fund-raising with FUN-raising, and I think we succeeded.” At no time was the dance floor empty.
A highlight of the evening was a door prize; an actual door, courtesy of the Door Jamb. A silent auction included an iPod donated by Tekserve, a family weekend for four from Frost Valley YMCA, a gift basket from The Cheese Barrel as well as other decorative and useful items artfully displayed by designer Gerry Murphy.
Hospital CEO Ed Morache and wife, Peggy greeted the partygoers including Dr. Amelia Conte-Russian, the new Roxbury Health Clinic physician. Members of the Hospital Auxiliary provided a pasta dinner and Sue Adams, Margaretville Hosp-ital Auxiliary President, provided the desserts. The auxiliary netted almost $3,000 from the event. That money will go towards a new four-wheel drive ambulance for the hospital.
