ASHC to dedicate 'Lost Towns" kiosk

Andes —  A kiosk to commemorate the four communities that are now “Beneath Pepacton Waters” — Shavertown, Union Grove, Pepacton and Arena — has been a special project for the board of directors of the Andes Society for History and Culture this year.

The kiosk, situated at the society’s Pleasant Valley Meeting House, on county Route 1 at the Bussey Hollow Road intersection, south of Andes and north of the Pepacton Reservoir, will be dedicates on Saturday, July 7, at 1 p.m.

Inside the kiosk will be many photographs of the communities that were taken for the building of the reservoir, along with information on the people who lived in the towns and on the farming land between them.

The film, “Beneath Pepacton Waters,” which was shot during the final months of life in the valley, will be shown in the meetinghouse, and refreshments will be served in the adjacent dining hall.
