Artist reception Saturday at Erpf

Arkville — John Sanders: Metallurgy, a new exhibit at the Erpf Gallery, features wall sculptures and sculptures of bronze, copper, brass, stainless steel, and steel. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday July 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Erpf Center: 43355 State Highway 28.

John Sanders, a resident of Roxbury, created his own technique called “flame-carved steel”, which renders the same textural results in steel as one might see in carved stone. In every sculpture, the viewer sees Sander’s mastery of heavy steel.

As part of the SolArt Project, Sander’s was commissioned to create a permanent outdoor exhibit at the Erpf Center. The SolArt Project, a partnership of The MARK Project, the Roxbury Arts Group, and the Catskill Center, weaves renewable energy with visual art: combining a 13-panel solar array, with landscape design and a Sander’s sculpture. The result is dramatic. John Sanders will be on hand to discuss this and the entire exhibit during Saturday’s Reception.

The exhibit is presented in partnership with the Roxbury Arts Group and is on display through September 7. For more information, contact the Catskill Center at 586-2611, cccd@catskillcenter.org, or visit www.catskillcenter.org.
