Arkville man killed in one-car accident
Jordan Soderback, 19, of Arkville was killed in a one-car accident on Route 28 in Olive Tuesday afternoon, August 10. The driver of the vehicle, Erica Miller, 31, also of Arkville, was charged with driving under the influence of narcotics and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to published reports, Miller’s vehicle was headed east on Route 28 when traffic slowed. As Miller swerved to avoid the car in front of her, she lost control, hit a guardrail and the vehicle overturned. Soderback was thrown from the car and pinned underneath it. He was declared dead at the scene.
Also in the car were Miller’s brother Shawn Scudder, 24, of Arkville; Diane Fairbairn, 18, of Arkville and Miller’s five-year-old daughter. They were all taken to Kingston Hospital, treated and released.
Miller reportedly told police she was under the influence of prescription narcotics. In addition to the misdemeanor charges, Miller was also cited for unlicensed operation, following too closely and unsafe tires. She was arraigned in Town of Hurley Justice Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.
