Area teams score at MCS Booster Club indoor tourney
The MCS Booster Club hosted its seventh annual indoor soccer tournament at Margaretville Central School on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13. The tournament featured 48 teams divided into four age groups.
The sixth- to eighth-grade bracket, which included 16 teams this year, saw division winners The Alfalfas, Balls of Fury (Margaretville), Schenevus I and TNT (Margaretville) advance to the playoffs.
In the semifinals, Balls of Fury won 4-0 over The Alfalfas and TNT won 4-3 over Schenevus I, pitting the two Margaretville teams against each other in the championship game. Balls of Fury won the Championship 4-0 over TNT with The Alfalfas taking third place over Schenevus I in the consolation game.
The boys’ varsity bracket saw division winners Andes, N3S (Delhi) and Davenport and wild card winner Walton Orange advance to the playoffs. In semifinal action, N3S defeated Walton Orange 6-0 and Andes beat Davenport 2-1 in sudden death overtime to advance to the championship. In an exciting title game, Andes beat N3S 2-1 to claim the championship.
In girls’ varsity action, division winners Schenevus I, Talons (Margaretville), and Schenevus II along with wild card winner Margaretville advanced to the playoffs. In semifinal action, Schenevus I defeated the Talons 3-0 and Margaretville edged Schenevus II 2-1 in sudden death overtime with only two players left on the floor for each squad, to advance.
The championship game saw Schenevus I beat Margaretville 2-0 to capture the title.
In Saturday evening’s Old Timers’ bracket, Inter-Rhinebeck, The Crew (Cooperstown), Margaretville Magic, and N3S (Delhi) advanced to the playoffs following bracket competition. Semifinal action saw Inter-Rhinebeck beating N3S 6-1 and Margaretville Magic beating The Crew 3-2 in sudden death overtime with only two players left on the floor for each squad. The championship game saw the Margaretville Magic capture its sixth straight title over Inter-Rhinebeck, 4-1.
