Area Police News: October 30, 2013
Thomas H. Brown, 62, Springfield, OH was driving a 2014 International tractor (without a trailer) east on Route 23 in the Town of Roxbury about 7:30 a.m. on Monday when he lost control of the vehicle, drove off the roadway and sheared off two telephone poles. Personnel from the Grand Gorge Rescue Squad and the Grand Gorge Fire Department responded to the scene. Brown was transported by ambulance to Fox Hospital in Oneonta for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Roxbury Constable Steve Williamson said the accident is still under investigation.
A Massapequa man escaped injury after his vehicle ran off the road and plunged over an embankment shortly after 8 p.m. in the Town of Roxbury.
Constable Steve Williamson said that Scott Sulzbach, 36, was driving north on Route 30 near the hamlet of Grand Gorge about 8:10 p.m. and said he swerved to avoid a deer, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. The Honda SUV ran through the guardrails and came to rest about 50 feet down an embankment.
Personnel from the Grand Gorge Fire Department and Rescue Squad were on the scene, but Sulzbach declined hospital treatment. No tickets were issued.
A Margaretville man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon, Oct. 27 on Route 28 east of Bridge Street in Margaretville.
State police say Dale Kowatch, 43, made a left turn off Bridge Street onto Route 28 driving his 1985 Harley Davidson motorcycle and then accelerated to a high rate of speed before losing control, crossing the roadway and exiting the left side where he hit guard rails and slid 100 feet before coming to a stop. Police say Kowatch just missed a head-on collision with a westbound vehicle.
Kowatch was airlifted to Albany Medical Center where he was treated for multiple injuries.
Police say the investigation is continuing.
On October 22, Delaware County Deputies arrested John E. Coss, 49, of Andes on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Delhi Court for attempted aggravated assault of a emergency medical services provider, a class “D” felony. This warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred on October 19 in the Town of Delhi.
Coss was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail. He is due back in court of October 25 at 10 a.m. for a felony hearing.
Keith A. Grieco, 43, of Grand Gorge was arrested by state police on October 21 and faces a number of charges after he was stopped on Route 28 in Margaretville as he turned into the Margaretville Hospital parking lot.
Police say that as a result of the stop and a search of Grieco’s vehicle, he was charged with DWI, open alcoholic beverage container, failure to signal, failure to notify DMV of an address change and other traffic violations.
He was arraigned in Andes Justice Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail to await further court action.
Anthony M. Russo, 35, of Syracuse was arrested by state police on October 21 and charged with disorderly conduct as the result of an argument at the Margaretville car wash.
He was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Middletown Justice Court on November 14 at 9 a.m.
