Area Police News: May 23, 2012

In April the Shandaken Police received a complaint from Belleayre Mountain Ski Center concerning the larceny of a large pile of scrap metal stored on the property. During the same time period police were receiving numerous other complaints of scrap metal larceny in Shandaken.
In May, Shandaken Police and investigators of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department and member of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Taskforce began a joint investigation of the thefts.
On May 17 police arrested Jeb. M. Tick, 43, of Highmount when he was allegedly found to be in possession of scrap metal that was property stolen from Belleayre at his residence.
Tick was charged with petit larceny and arraigned in Shandaken Justice Court. He was released to reappear later.
Police say the investigation is continuing and they expect additional arrests.

Georgette Beneat, 70, of Big Indian was arrested by state police on May 15 and charged with DWI following a one-car accident on Halcott Road in the Town of Middletown.
Police say they responded to a 911 call and found the Beneat vehicle overturned in the area of Halcott Road and Switzerland Avenue, Fleischmanns.
Police say that charged Beneat following a blood alcohol test at Margaretville Hospital where she was taken following the accident.
She was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Middletown Justice Court on June 11.

Matthew R. Olsen, 25, of Bloomville was arrested by state police on May 20 after a vehicle he was driving struck a parked vehicle on county Highway 6 in the Town of Bovina.
Olsen was treated for a facial abrasion at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi and later charged with felony DWI, failure to keep right and failure to notify the DMV of an address change.
