Area Police News: June 10, 2009

On June 2, following an investigation into an accident that occurred on May 25, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies charged Steven R. Freeth, 36, of East Meredith for “Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident” and “Failure to Keep Right.” Freeth was released on tickets to reappear at a later date in Town of Delhi Court.

Following a joint investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Barbara B. Ackerley, age 58, of 42529 state Highway 30, Margaretville and charged her with the following crime: one count of Grand Larceny in the third degree, a class D Felony. It is alleged that the defendant committed a theft of $21,039.06 from an elderly victim whom she was alleged to have been the caretaker for, between February 1, 2006 and June 9, 2008. This investigation is continuing.
Tbe defendant was arraigned in the Local Criminal Court of the Town of Delhi and was released in her own recognizance pending a scheduled court date with her legal counsel. The court issued Orders of Protection to the victim and a material witness restraining the defendant from any contact with them under any circumstances.

The Town of Shandaken Police reports the arrest of Victoria A. Drizis, 19, of Halcott Road, Fleischmanns after a lengthy investigation with the NYS Police BCI. Police state that Drizis, who while previously employed at the Belleayre Mountain Ski Center in ticket sales, falsified business records for the purpose of committing larceny which is alleged in excess of $4,500. Drizis was arraigned in Shandaken Town Court and charged with one count of Grand Larceny third and one count of Falsifying Business Records in the first degree, both Felonies.
