Area Police News: August 10, 2011
On July 29, following an investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested and arraigned, Matthew Mattice, 20 of Downsville on a sealed grand jury indictment.
The grand jury indictment included charges of felony first-degree rape, felony first-degree criminal sexual act, felony first-degree sexual abuse and misdemeanor second-degree menacing.
Following arraignment Mattice was sent to the county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
William A. Cipolla, 43, of Gilboa was arrested by state police on August 1 following a traffic stop and charged with driving with a suspended license.
Cipolla was transported to Stamford where troopers made arraignments to transport him to Malone where his suspension occurred.
Jean M. Fenton, 52, of Margaretville was arrested by state police on August 2 and charged with violating an order of protection after she allegedly harassed an ex-boyfriend over the telephone. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Middletown Justice Court on August 18.
Two downstate brothers face a number of charges after they were arrested by state police on August 3 in Grand Gorge following an incident at the Sunoco Country Store.
State police say they charged Scott A. Evanchof, 28, of Smithville Flats with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, DWI and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Also charged was Michael R. Evanchof, 26, also of Smithville Flats, who was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of hypodermic needles. Both men were arraigned and sent to the county jail to await felony hearings in Town of Roxbury Justice Court on August 8.
Vanessa M. Sanchez, 31, of Swan Lake was arrested by state police on August 8 on a bench warrant issued by the Town of Middletown Justice Court charging her with failure to appear. She was arraigned and released to appear at a later date.
David A Smith, 32, of Liverpool was arrested by state police on August 1 following a traffic stop on Route 23 in Stamford and charged with speeding and unlawful possession of marijuana. A passenger in his vehicle, Anthony J. Mossow, 33, of Solvay, was issued a traffic summons for not wearing a seat belt.
Maurice E. Hughes, 21, of Stamford was arrested by state police on August 2 and charged with petit larceny after he allegedly stole a cell phone from a friend.
Hughes was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Roxbury Justice Court on August 15 at 7 p.m.
Dale J. Stephens, 27, of Walton, was arrested by state police on August 7 and charged with DWI after he was stopped for speeding on Route 10 in the Town of Hamden.
Police say they charged Stephens when his blood alcohol level allegedly tested .15 percent.
Stephens was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Hamden Justice Court on August 15.
