Area Police News: April 28, 2010

Cory J. Costello, 23, of DeLancey was arrested by Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on April 18 at 2:25 a.m. and charged with third-degree attempted assault. The charges followed an incident on state Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden.  Costello was arraigned before Hamden Town Justice Gaye Merrill and released on his own recognizance to reappear at a later date.

Following a 911 dispatch at 1 a.m. on April 19 for a car that had left the roadway on state Highway 28 in the Town of Franklin, Ashleigh A. Germond, 26, of Delhi was arrested by Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies for failure to keep right, operating a motor vehicle with blood alcohol over .08 percent and DWI. Germond was released on appearance tickets to reappear in the Town of Franklin Court at a later date.

Following a traffic stop on April 20 at 6:07 p.m. on county Highway 22 in the Town of Walton, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Thomas E. Freer Jr., 46, of Harpersfield charging him with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding.  Freer was arraigned in Town of Walton Court where $500 cash bail was paid and he was released.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Patricia Cortese of Halcottsville on April 6 charging her with one charge of third-degree welfare fraud, a class D felony, second-degree forgery, a class D felony, and first-degree offering a false instrument, a class E felony. Deputies alleged that Cortese submitted documentation that contained false information to the Delaware County Department of Social Services. These actions resulted in Cortese receiving more public assistance benefits than she was entitled to. She was arrested on a warrant issued by the Town of Delhi Court and arraigned in Town of Delhi Court. Cortese was released to reappear on May 5.

Eric Wedemeyer, 67, of Margaretville was arrested by state police on April 19 and charged with DWI and speeding. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on state Route 30 in the Town of Middletown. Police say they charged Wedemeyer when his blood alcohol level allegedly tested .08 percent. Wedemeyer was issued appearance tickets returnable in the Town of Middletown Justice Court.

State police arrested Jennifer A. Petersen, 39, of Margaretville on April 24 charging her with DWI. The arrest followed a traffic stop on Route 30 in the Town of Middletown. Police say they charged Petersen when her blood alcohol level allegedly tested .13 percent. Petersen was issued an appearance ticket returnable in the Town of Middletown Justice Court on May 6.

State Police in Margaretville arrested Dodie D. Perry, 39, of Halcottsville on April 24 for her alleged involvement in three separate residential burglaries. On April 23 Crystal Scudder, 41, and Herman Murphy, 44, both of Kingston, were also charged in connection with these burglaries. Perry and Scudder were both charged with three counts of second-degree burglary and arraigned in the Town of Middletown Court, where they were remanded to Delaware County Jail in lieu of bail.
Murphy was charged with one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and three counts fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Murphy was also arraigned in the Town of Middletown and remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of bail.
State police were assisted with this investigation by Town of Roxbury Constable Steve Williamson, The City of Poughkeepsie Police Depart-ment, The City of Kingston Police Department, and New York State Police in Kingston and Riverhead. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.

Herbert R. Huggans, 44, of Fleischmanns was arrested by state police last week Saturday and charged with DWI after he was stopped on Route 28 for a traffic violation. Police say they issued Huggans an appearance ticket returnable in Town of Middletown Justice Court on May 10.

Anthony L. Ariemma, 19, of Gardner was arrested by state police last week Monday and charged with DWI after he was stopped in the Village of Stamford for traveling the wrong direction on a one-way street. Police say Ariemma was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Village of Stamford Justice Court on May 6.

Arthur Melvin, 38, of Andes was arrested by state police Sunday and charged with DWI after he was stopped on Lower Main Street in Andes for several traffic violations. Police say they charged Melvin with DWI after a sample of his blood was drawn at Margaretville Hospital. He was issued appearance tickets returnable in Town of Andes Justice Court on May 13.

Joshua A. George, 24, of Roxbury was arrested by state police Sunday and charged with third-degree burglary and petit larceny following what police said was a domestic dispute with a former girlfriend over personal property. Police say George entered his former girlfriend’s apartment without her permission and removed several items he claimed were his. George was arraigned in Town of Roxbury Justice Court and released pending a further court appearance on May 3.

An Arkville mother and her daughter were arrested on April 3 and charged with disorderly conduct after they allegedly harassed and intimidated a neighbor. Charged in the case were Lisa M. Paradies, 39, and Christina M. Vitale, 18. Both women are scheduled to appear in Town of Middletown Justice Court on April 29 to answer the charges.
