Andes man found guilty on sex charges
A 20-year-old Andes man was found Friday of two felony charges stemming from his arrest for e-mailing a sexual image of an underage female. Clint Peterson was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child under age 17 (a class D felony) and possessing a sexual performance by a child under age 16 (a class E felony). The guilty verdicts were rendered at a jury trial in Delaware County Court in Delhi last Friday.
Peterson was convicted of e-mailing the image of the underage girl to someone whom he thought was another young girl. The recipient was actually a member of the Los Angeles County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The image was reportedly traced back to Peterson’s computer and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department was contacted for further investigation.
Executing a search warrant, sheriff’s deputies seized Peterson’s computer in March 2008. The computer was then turned over to personnel from the Broome County Computer Analysis and Technical Support department.
The forensic examination of the computer allegedly revealed the image of the underage girl engaged in a sexual act and Peterson was arrested on October 14, 2008.
Sheriff’s Department Senior Investigator Karl Vagts said that Peterson was 17 when he reportedly sent the image and 18 at the time of his arrest.
The investigator said the girl was not identified but that “she was definitely under the age of 16.”
Peterson has been free on bail. He is scheduled for sentencing in June.
