‘An Evening of Parlor Magic’ a benefit for Open Eye Theater
Margaretville — An enchanting evening with master magician Art Martello, “An Evening of Parlor Magic” will take place on Friday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. at The Open Eye Theater, 960 Main Street, Margaretville.
Before the Internet, before television, a night of magic meant an evening spent in an elegant parlor; just you and a small gathering of friends eager to observe and participate in demonstrations of wonder. You won’t see anyone sawed in half, there’s nary a rabbit nor top hat to be found, but you will experience an evening of mystery and humor that you won’t soon forget. State-of-the-art magic in a setting which harkens back to another age, a hundred years ago when the rich and famous entertained in the plush parlors of their homes. Guests attending will feel as if they have stepped back into yesteryear, magically as well!
Arthur Martello, Open Eye board trustee, has been a member of the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians (Order of Merlin) for the past 35 years. Although his interest in magic began when he was around eight years old, it was not until the mid-70s that he decided to become more dedicated to the art. Now retired from his previous career as a speech pathologist, teacher, and special education administrator, he is able to devote all of his time to magic.
Ticket prices are adults $15/seniors $12/students $7. Reservations can be made by calling 586-1660 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The show begins at 7:30 on Friday, July 23 at The Open Eye Theater. A bake sale will take place just before at 6:30.
This is an adult oriented show, and although children are welcome, it will not be structured to entertain the little folk.
