An evening of art and music in Roxbury

Roxbury — The Roxbury Arts Group invites the public to attend an evening that jointly meshes art with song, transcending the viewer to a level of “six-senses perfection” on Saturday, March 24 starting with a 6 p.m. art exhibit opening and reception featuring the work of digital collage artist, Gwen Adler and collaborators on canvas and in song, Natalia Zukerman and Adrianne Gonzalez.

The evening culminates with a concert ART. IS. SONG conceived and performed by Zukerman and Gonzalez, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the concert portion of the evening ART. IS. SONG, are $10 and may be reserved by calling 607 326-7908.

Gwen Adler uses natural and artificial light in her photos to uncover what she refers to as “…bits of life in the fractured imagery we see every day…” and captures them with her camera. Through the use of reflected images, Adler’s abstract urban landscapes reveal layers of imagery and color, allowing the viewer “…to let go of the notion of the photograph as being a picture of some thing and focus instead on the abstract imagery that emerges from recomposed elements.”

Natalia Zukerman and Adrianne Gonzalez continue stretching the viewer’s ‘sight’ through their collaborative paintings inspired from lyrics in their songs. Zukerman began her art career as a muralist, imbuing her works with a ‘sense of possibility and hope.’

Gonzalez discovered her love for words, primary colors (mostly) and lines have been interconnected and that she had been integrating them all along in her songs. Inspired by limitations and in love with love, Gonzalez attempts to find the profound in ideas without losing its original pureness in all her art.

To carry the idea of integrating art forms further, Zukerman and Gonzalez, both respected singer-songwriters in the folk and concert circles, joined forces with their ART. IS. SONG concept, to explore and expose the symbiotic relationship between art and song. With diverse influences that include Folk, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Bluegrass, Country and even Classical, Natalia Zukerman has been described by public radio as “an example of the finest Americana.”

Adrianne Gonzalez is a professional guitar player and collaborator. She regularly records and tours with well-known and respected musicians and enjoys playing with diversely talented friends and colleagues.

After graduating from the Berklee College of Music with a degree in music production and engineering, Adrianne signed a publishing deal with Lionel Conway and relocated to the West Coast.
