"Amish Project" debuts at RAG

Roxbury — Actor and playwright Jessica Dickey is bringing her powerful play “The Amish Project” to The Roxbury Arts Group as this summer’s offering from Todd Mountain Theater Project (TMTP).
“The Amish Project,” written and performed by Jessica Dickey, will be at The Roxbury Arts Group August 6-9 and August 13-16. Thursday to Sunday at 8 p.m., Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Her riveting writing and acting recently garnered rave reviews in New York City during a successful run at The Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.
The play is based on the true story of a shooting in an Amish community in 2006 explored through seven characters, all portrayed by Jessica Dickey. The New York Times reviewer called her script “remarkable” and her performance “extraordinary.”
Dickey says: “When we first sat down as a production team to consider our hopes and
goals for The Amish Project, we knew we wanted a fully-realized New York production.  We also knew we wanted to bring the play and its message to the rest of the country. Todd Mountain is a chance to begin the next phase - going into a community and sharing the play. We look forward to continuing the dialogue with the Roxbury community!”
Joining Dickey is a wonderful team of theater artists. Award-winning Director Sarah Cameron Sunde’s sharply etched work has been widely praised.  Set designer Lauren Helpern and lighting designer Nicole Pierce have been working with TMTP’s Technical Director Erik Benson to create a design for the space at Hilt Kelly Hall. Production Stage Manager Kelly Shaffer and Associate Lighting Designer Natalie Robin round out the collaborative effort. Agent Morgan Jenness, who has been formative in the development of the production, is bringing her third playwright to TMTP.
According to director Sunde, “The beauty of our production is in the theatricality of one extremely talented woman, transforming a simple space into a complex world where there is tragedy and sorrow, but also hope. And grace is passed on, from person to person. character to character; performer to audience member. It’s a one-on-one interaction.” Speaking of her collaboration with TMTP she says, “With Todd Mountain, we get a chance to re-consider the complex simplicity of the story once again, this time outside of New York City.  Being surrounded by the nature of the Catskills will no doubt help us reconnect to the nature that is in the world of the play. And as we do so, we’re developing the ‘touring version’ of the production.”
