Alice Elizabeth (Reed) Kasmer, 85, of Roxbury, passed away in her home where she lived her entire life, on Monday morning, Oct. 13. She was born in Roxbury on September 21, 1923, the daughter of Burton and Elizabeth (Webb) Reed. She graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1941. She then attended Wilfred Beauty Academy in New York City. After receiving her cosmetology license, she opened her own hair salon in Roxbury.
Alice married Steven C. Kasmer on July 8, 1950.
Alice and Steven owned and operated Reed’s Hotel and Bar and Grill since 1961.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Gary Dorosky and Alicia and James Brazie, both of Roxbury; two granddaughters, Cynthia Lawrence and husband William and Kelly Dorosky and fiancé Kasey; two nieces, Alice Joy Kelly and Joan Beers and one nephew, Charles Rettmeier.
She was predeceased by her husband, Steven Kasmer on March 20, 2002; a sister, Isabelle and her brother, Richard.
A private graveside service will be held at the Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury, with the Very Rev. James J. McDevitt officiating.
Donations in memory of Alice E. Kasmer may be made to the Ambulance Fund of the Roxbury Fire Department.
