Alexandria “Sandy” Stanley, 72, died Saturday, May 17, 2014 as a result of an accident at her residence on Creekside Drive in Shandaken.
She was born March 8, 1942 in Glasgow Scotland, a daughter of the late Alexander and Anne (McKerrell) Cassley. She maintained dual citizenship.
Sandy was a nurse mid-wife in Scotland before coming to America. She had over 50 years of nursing skills, of which 37 years came as a nurse at the Margaretville Hospital. She was the night-shift supervisor on the CCU, a member of the St. Francis de Sales Parish and former CCD instructor, chair of the Shandaken-Allaben Beautification Committee, Shandaken Recreation Committee, Glenbrook Park manager, instrumental in the volunteer response to Hurricane Irene, and simply an active community volunteer.
She, and her husband Bob, were co-owners of Stanley Plumbing locally since 1978. She enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad, and had even been on a DaVinci Code tour in England. Her family shared, that she instilled a lot of passion, in a lot of people. She was proud of her Scottish heritage, enjoyed time spent with family, and was heavily involved in her grand children’s lives. Sandy touched innumerable lives in a healing and special way.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Stanley whom she married in 1968; a daughter, Alexandria Stanley Patel of Hampden, ME, and two sons, Robert of Pine Hill and James of Saugerties. Nine grandchildren also survive.
Her funeral procession will form on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main Street, Phoenicia, thence to the St. Francis de Sales Church where at 10 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.
