A missed opportunity at the mountain

To The Editor:
My wife and I attended the Belleayre Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 12. The weather was spectacular. However, I wish I could say the same about the event itself – it was pretty dismal. Excluding the food concessions (a bar, one poor attempt at German food, and a pulled pork stand), there were probably only six vendors.
What happened to the days when the NY DEC forest ranger, Smoky the Bear and the falconer were in attendance? What happened to the crowds, the kids, and the art vendors and craft folks? We noted the lack of attendance – it was striking. I must say however, the chair lift operators were exceptionally pleasant and thoughtful – cheers to that crew.
Clearly the 2013 Oktoberfest was a missed opportunity by ORDA (responsible for managing Belleayre) to promote the area, generate interest and lead economic development. From my perspective, the Girl Scout carwash in my hometown is better promoted and generates more enthusiasm what we experienced at Belleayre Saturday
