3-D archery events set for two weekends at Frost Valley
Claryville — Frost Valley YMCA’s Outdoor Sporting Program will hold a 3-D Archery Shoot and Barbecue on Saturdays, Aug. 8 and Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Competition categories are offered for each targets from cub, novice, youth, traditional, women, hunter, open, to pro and top bow classes. Foam animals are set in natural terrain on a 1/2-mile trail of easy hiking for most everyone. Competitors will shoot from various positions.
Archers of every age and skill level can test their skills on Frost Valley’s new 3-D course. There are 28 lifelike targets and the course is rearranged for every shoot, presenting different challenges for each event.
Participants should bring their own bow and arrows, if possible. There will be a limited number of loaner bows on hand. Frost Valley staff will be available for tips and instruction.
The event fee is $16 for adults; $6 for children 13 and under and those under age six compete for free.
The 3-D course is located at 2244 Frost Valley Road, Claryville. Directions: from Liberty, take Route 55 east 10 miles to Curry. Look for sign on the right side of the road marked “Claryville” (currently missing the “y,” turn left here, onto county Road 19 and go four miles to Claryville. Look for sign on right side of road marked Frost Valley. Turn left onto county Road 157 (it becomes County Road 47) and drive seven miles to Frost Valley.
From Albany and points north, from New York Thruway Exit 19 (Kingston), go 30 miles west on Route 28. Look for signs on the left side of the road marked Big Indian. Turn left onto county Road 47 and go 14 miles to Frost Valley. If you’re traveling east on Route 28, turn right at Big Indian and proceed as above.
