RCS team scores at Science Olympiad

Roxbury — The Roxbury Central School Science Olympiad Team claimed six medals and a 10th-place overall finish at the Junior High Science Olympiad State Finals at SUNY New Paltz last weekend. In addition, the Roxbury team, which features students in seventh, eighth and ninth grades, narrowly missed taking home the Best Small School trophy by a mere two places.


Regional spelling bee winners go to head of the class

Roxbury — Winners of in-school Cultural Arts Spelling Bees will compete in the Second Annual Delaware and Otsego counties Regional Bee at The Roxbury Arts Center on Saturday, May 8 at 10 a.m. Admission is free to the general public. Light refreshments will be served.


Hinkleys saluted for volunteerism

Grand Gorge — Grand Gorge Fire Department members held their annual dinner at the Grand Gorge Firehouse on Saturday, March 27. The event began with an informal get-together where members and invited guests discussed what their departments were involved in during the 2009 year.


Molnar takes silver at conference

During the March 24-27 NYS Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) annual State Leadership Conference, Alexis Molnar of Margaretville received a rating of silver for her Promote and Publicize campaign for FCCLA.


Kasanof receives Bushnell Award from NYCCT

Anton N. Kasanof, a trustee of Columbia-Greene Com-munity College, received the Anne M. Bushnell Memorial Award March 12 from the New York Community College Trustees, at the organization’s 56th annual conference in Saratoga Springs.


Alexis Molnar is FCCLA rep

Margaretville Central School student Alexis Molnar will be representing MCS at the NY State FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) Conference in Otego, N.Y., from March 24 to 27. Molnar is a state-level FCCLA Junior Leader.


2009 Catskill Mountain News Best Service Award winners announced

The Catskill Mountain News and Columnist Margaret S. Inge are pleased to announce the 12th annual Catskill Best Service Awards. Readers selected those businesses and individuals who consistently deliver extraordinary service via ballots submitted during the months of November and December.
The tally of the over 500 ballots received includes more than 450 different businesses and 520 individual service providers in 78 categories. They are located across the region, giving testimony to the fact that customers will travel far and wide for quality service.


Roxbury teen on target at shooting championship

Ballston Spa — Roxbury resident Tristan Mulder, whose alias is Teton Fox, just returned home from  Heluva Rukus  where over 250 shooters from all over the east coast came to compete at  the New York State Cowboy Action Shooting Championships held in Ballston Spa on September 18-20. 
Mulder took second place in the boys’ Young Gun category, which is for boys ages 14 to 16.


County Chamber announces awards

Delhi — The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will recognize several businesses and individuals for their service to the county’s business community at its 2009 Annual Awards Dinner.
Delhi Telephone has been selected as Business of the Year. "They continue to research the telecommuting needs of their individual and business customers regularly," stated Mary Beth Silano, executive director of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.


Andes students honored for athletic achievements

Andes Central School held its 2008-2009 Athletic Banquet on Wednesday, June 10.
