Orr, Bellar win Ulster Co. Real Estate awards

Kingston — The annual S.T.A.R. Awards brunch was held on Tuesday, March 31 at the Best Western to honor realtors who have excelled in their businesses during 2014. As part of that celebration, two agents from Delaware County, Pamela “Jean” Orr and Margaret “Peggy” Bellar were also recognized for their outstanding sales achievement in 2014. Jean received two awards, one for high units of sales and another top-producer award for outstanding volume of sales

Hinkley retires after 21 years in the service

Wasilla, AL — After 21 years of active duty service to the U. S. Air Force, Senior Master Sergeant Winfield S. Hinkley Jr., a 1992 Roxbury Central School graduate and son of Wink and Karen Hinkley of Grand Gorge, has transitioned to the Alaska Air National Guard.

Ronald Mattino promoted to major in Palm Beach

PRonald T. Mattino Jr. has been promoted to the rank of major in the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office where he has served for 27 years.
Ron has served in the following capacities throughout his tenure: deputy sheriff, K-9 officer, organized crime agent, Swat team, road patrol sergeant, lieutenant, captain over the training division, and major of patrol operations.
Ron’s son, Mathew Mattino, has also served in the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for almost five years as a deputy sheriff.
Ron Jr. is the son of Ronald T. Mattino Sr., formerly of Ark­ville.

MCS students add prizes for Math Bee winners

Emilie Beers was the first-place winner of the third annual Math Bee for sixth- and seventh-graders at Margaret­ville Central School (MCS) held November 20.
Emilie, who is in seventh grade, received a seven-inch Kindle Fire tablet for winning first-place in the competition.

Spinelli earns Coldwell Banker Presidential Circle designation

Carol Spinelli, a real estate salesperson with Coldwell Banker Timberland Properties, has been awarded membership into the prestigious Coldwell Banker Real Estate International President’s Circle.
Ms. Spinelli was honored March 12 by Budge Huskey, chief executive officer, for Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC, at the Coldwell Banker Gen Blue event held at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, CT.
The International President’s Circle, designation represents membership among the top six percent of all sales associates/representatives worldwide in the Coldwell Banker system.

James Warner, newest Eagle Scout

Margaretville Boy Scout James Warner has been awarded his Eagle Certificate, the highest award in scouting. Above, Troop 180 Committee Chair Jim Gauntt makes the presentation to James last Thursday. James is a senior at Margaretville Central School and is the son of Jeff and Doris Warner.  He has been a boy scout since the first grade and is a member of the Order of the Arrow. His Eagle project involved rebuilding a back porch at Fairview Public Library. James is also a member of National Honor Society, the varsity golf, soccer, basketball, and tennis teams at MCS and is an active participant at Sacred Heart Church in Margaretville. —Contributed photo

Jon Dykstra is a member of college band

Orange City, Iowa — Jon Dykstra, a student at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, is a member of the Symphonic Band this semester.

The Symphonic Band will tour in Mitchell and Sioux Falls, S.D., March 30 to April 1, performing full or partial concerts in six venues. For concert times and details, visit

Mariah Ruff is Gym Rat All Star

A record field of over 2,200 girls playing on 200 basketball teams from 14 states and Canada gathered in Albany last weekend to take part in the Gym Rat Challenge.
Former Andes player Mariah Ruff was named as one of 39 Gym Rat All-Stars in the tournament. Ruff, a former junior high girls’ varsity standout at Andes Central School transferred this past year to Oneonta where she was an all-star freshman point guard for the Section IV Class B champions. Ruff’s Catskill Mountain AAU team advanced to the championship round of the tournament.
