Anniversaries

Fifty years ago in nearby Hamden, Andes residents Ann and Dick Liddle took a gamble on the weather, getting married outdoors on what turned out to be a beautiful summer day.

Emily and Lou Giorgi of New Kingston celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family party on October 3 at Giovannis’ Water’s Edge Restaurant in Danbury, Conn. The party was hosted by the couple’s children; Louis Giorgi Jr. and Adelia Hunter, both of New Kingston, Margaret Giorgi Riehl of White Plains and Christopher Giorgi and his wife Elizabeth of Danbury.

George and Barbara Firment of Andes will celebrate 60 years of marriage on August 21.
The couple was married in 1949 at the Arkville Rectory and have resided in Andes for the past 60 years. Mr. Firment is a retired dairy farmer and Mrs. Firment taught elementary education early in their marriage until retiring to raise five children.

Margaretville residents Ruth and Ralph Smith celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 22.  They were married in Queens on Nov. 22, 1943.
Ralph served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and later retired from IBM in Vermont, while Ruth retired from the Vermont school system.
