Gritty Rockets fall to Wildcats, Devils win, ACS splits in girls' hoops

In a game more reminiscent of a poker hand than a basketball match-up, three of a kind nearly beat a full house last Tuesday, when the Roxbury girls played host to the visiting Wildcats of Gilboa. The game went down to the wire and the Lady Rockets found themselves down to only three players, having succumbed to foul trouble.


Fast start leads ACS past Devils

The Andes boys posted a convincing 73-27 win over the visiting Blue Devils of Margaretville on Friday night, in a game that was rescheduled from the night before. The Mountaineers jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Blue Devils 20-4 in the opening quarter.


Late heroics lead MCS girls to victory over Mountaineers

It was the Amy Filupeit show at Margaretville Central School on Friday night, when the host Blue Devils took on the visiting Mountaineers of Andes Central School. Filupeit nailed three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, the last of which came with 31 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 54 apiece.


ACS, MCS girls split games; mixed results for boys' hoop teams

The Andes Lady Mountaineers split a pair of games last week, falling to South Kortright, 59-42, on Tuesday before posting a 57-45 win over the host Hunter-Tannersville Wildcats on Thursday.


Coaches vs. Cancer event set Friday at Margaretville

Margaretville Central School will take part in the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer awareness program on Friday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at the MCS Auditorium. MCS will donate all of the admission proceeds from this Friday’s girls’ varsity game to the American Cancer Society to benefit cancer research. This week’s game starts at 7 p.m., when the Blue Devils play host to the visiting Mountaineers of Andes Central School.


Margaretville, Roxbury skiers score at Plattekill giant slalom

Two skiers from Margaretville and two from Roxbury claimed four of the top 10 spots in the men’s giant slalom at Plattekill Mountain on Friday, while three Roxbury skiers finished in the top 10 in the women’s giant slalom.

This Friday and next, Margaretville Central School will take part in the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer awareness program. Andes boys down Roxbury, Stamford

The Andes Mountaineers went on a 10-0 scoring run at the end of their game against the visiting Roxbury Rockets last Wednesday, capped off by a three-pointer from Eric Reed, to give Andes what would turn out to be a game-deciding one-point edge.


Margaretville girls win on late three-pointer; Roxbury girls post first victory

Margaretville junior Amy Filupeit nailed a three-pointer with 9.9 seconds remaining to give the Lady Blue Devils a one-point lead that earned Margaretville the win in its home match-up against visiting Downsville on Monday night.
